Overview

My Name is Ursula but I prefer to called Sue. I have 20 years background in education and 12 years of safeguarding as a Designated Safeguarding Lead. As a care experienced individual, I am passionate about advocating for the voice of the child. I came to social work later in life, the benefit of this is that I have lots of life experiences including a grown up family of my own.

I would say I am most proud of speaking at the Society for Social Work Research conference, in Seatle, Washington in 2025. My research was about how the philosophy of Ubuntu can be applied in safeguarding to support children to stay within their families.

The saying it takes a village to raise a child, is a huge part of the Ubuntu philosophy and can be a reality even for those children who are looked after.
